Low Farm is a large Georgian farmhouse
nestling peacefully in a secluded valley where the North York moors
roll down to the sea. We are approximately 1.5 miles from Robin Hoods
Bay (less by pleasant footpaths)
We offer guests the opportunity to share this unique location with us,
unwind in a peaceful environment, and at the same time experience life
on a genuine working farm.
The farm is 160 acres in size. This is mostly grass land, with only
a small percentage of arable land (which we grow for consumption by
our own cattle). We run approximately 200 head of predominantly Aberdeen
Angus cattle, which are reared for beef production, producing “the
roast beef of old England”. Along with these we run around 100
ewes and their lambs.
We operate the farm under a Countryside Stewardship agreement, which
means we farm the grassland in an environmentally friendly way, without
the use of fertilizer or chemical sprays. The cereal land has very careful
use of chemical weed killers (we believe in “live and let live”)
with careful attention to wildlife and conservation. We are a F.A.B.B.L.
(Farm Assured British Beef and Lamb) farm which means we are regularly
inspected to ensure that we practice a high standard of welfare care
for our animals. We believe that the countryside is here for everyone
to enjoy, and this can only be achieved by a better understanding of
farming today. We hope you will get a chance to witness this during
your stay.
